Puffco Pivot vs Peak Comparison

You probably already know Puffco is one of the best brands in the electric dab rig space. You’ve likely heard all about the Puffco Peak specifically - the gold standard in this category. But did you know Puffco makes other devices, too?

We’re going to compare the Puffco Pivot vs Peak for you because they’re both awesome devices when you want to use your concentrate on the go. And they’re totally different.

The Puffco Peak is a full-size e-rig with water filtration and a glass top. It’s $275, but pretty much everyone who buys it comes to the realization that it was worth every penny. The Puffco Pivot fits in your pocket and is more of a dab pen than an e-rig. It’s only $150.

What is the Puffco Peak?

This desktop-style electronic dab rig changes the game if you’ve been using a traditional dab rig and are fed up with the constant torching and guessing on temperatures. It has a glass water attachment so you still get filtration, but the way you use it is totally different.

You fill the 3D ceramic chamber with your concentrate and choose from one of four heat settings based on whether you want maximum flavor preservation or massive rips. Either way, the device starts heating and is ready to enjoy within 20 seconds. You can control airflow while inhaling using the joystick cap.

Sesh-Mode keeps the chamber going for longer draws without having to constantly restart the heat cycle. The LED light band shows you what setting you’re on at a glance. It’s a really intuitive device with pretty much zero learning curve.

It’s the mid-range device from the Puffco family at $275. Below the latest and greatest Peak Pro 3DXL ($420) but above the Pivot. Speaking of which, let’s introduce the other half of our Puffco Peak vs Pivot comparison.

What is the Puffco Pivot?

The Puffco Pivot is not a dab rig. It’s a dab pen. But not the type that you screw a cartridge into. You actually load the device with concentrate and take a dry dab. We know that sounds like it wouldn’t be very enjoyable. It’s actually way smoother than you’d think!

You’re hitting from the same 3D ceramic chamber as the Peak but without any water filtration or glass top. Whether that’s a limitation or a benefit all comes down to how and where you’re using the device. You really can’t beat the Pivot for portability.

You still get four heat presets, ranging from low-temp flavor chasing to hotter, cloudier rips. You control everything using one button. You’ll know the device has reached temp when it buzzes. There’s a light bar along the body which can be used as a visual dab timer so you can get in a good routine of taking the same-length hits.

The device is super easy to care for. The quick-release chamber pops out so you can clean it and then snap it back in without any threading. You can charge it in just 1-2 hours, and a full charge will give you a good 9-12 sessions depending on how you use the pen.

It’s only $150 - almost half the price of the Peak. But is the Pivot right for you? Let’s take a closer look at the Puffco Pivot vs Peak side by side below so you can really see what each has to offer.

Comparing the Puffco Pivot vs Puffco Peak Side-by-Side

Choosing between the Puffco Peak vs Pivot really just comes down to where and how you dab. More specifically, whether you’d prefer something you can load at home and then take in your pocket or something with water filtration. That’s the split. Then there’s the cost discrepancy.

Either way, you’re getting an awesome device. Both use Puffco’s 3D ceramic chamber and four heat presets. We carry both here at Badass Glass, and have tested each ourselves. Here are our honest thoughts on the Puffco Pivot vs Peak comparison.

Size and Portability

Portability goes to the Pivot without question. It’s smaller than your phone and can pack into your pocket, in your purse, in your backpack, or even just in your hand as you head out of the house. It’s durable enough for any adventure with an aluminum body and silicone mouthpiece. No glass to stress about anywhere.

The Peak can technically travel anywhere. It’s only 7 inches tall and the glass water attachment comes on and off so you can pack it up safely and bring it on a trip, to the park, or even just out into the backyard. But it needs a flat surface, and you do have to be way more careful with it.

How the Vapor Compares

There’s some overlap in how the vapor comes out since both devices give you the same heat settings and 3D ceramic chamber. But we’ve found that the Puffco Peak hits harder and smoother at the same time since it has built-in water filtration.

You know how much of a difference that water makes if you’ve ever hit a dab rig compared to a nectar collector (see our nectar collector vs dab rig comparison for more insights).

The Puffco Pivot is a dry device. It still holds up really well for its cost and size, though. The 3D ceramic chamber preserves terpenes. It heats up really fast. But the vapor is undeniably warmer since nothing is cooling it down before it reaches your throat and lungs. You might just have to use it on the lower setting to get used to it before ramping up the intensity.

Ease of Use and Temperature Control

The Puffco Pivot vs Peak comparison is pretty straightforward as far as how you control temperature. Each has a single button and four heat presets to cycle through. There’s basically no learning curve with either. WAY easier than your typical dabbing experience.

The Peak does give you a little more control over the session with its joystick cap for airflow while you inhale. You direct the cap while inhaling to move concentrate around the chamber for more even vaporization. Think of it like using a carb cap on a normal dab rig.

This is obviously not a feature of the Pivot. You just inhale and exhale. It’s that simple. The one advantage the Pivot has over the Peak here is setup time. It takes 5 seconds to heat (compared to 20 seconds with the Peak). No water filling, glass to attach, etc. Just load and hit!

Maintenance and Cleaning Requirements

You can’t skimp on maintenance with either device - at least, not if you want them to last a long time and deliver flavorful rips for the long haul! But the Pivot is definitely the simpler tool here. It doesn’t have a water attachment, so there’s only one thing to clean - the ceramic chamber. It pops out with a quick twist and then you can effortlessly swab it with iso to keep it fresh.

In contrast, you have to do that with the Puffco Peak AND take care of the glass water attachment. It’ll slowly but surely become filled with reclaim that can be a bit more work to clean out. You have to change out the water on a regular basis as well to keep rips tasty.

Cost Comparison

Perhaps the biggest difference between the Puffco Pivot vs Peak is cost. We’re talking $150 vs $275 here at Badass Glass, where you will find the lowest prices on either device. That $125 gap could buy a few grams of top-shelf rosin or live resin to get started with!

Either way, though, these are definitely more expensive devices than other e-rig brands you’ll find in our lineup - such as the Lookah Seahorse King vs Pro Plus, for example. You can learn more about the differences between Puffco vs Lookah in our blog.

Which is Right For You?

Choosing between the Puffco Peak vs Pivot comes down to what you want more out of the purchase. Are you looking for something portable to complement your existing dab rig? The Pivot obviously makes for the perfect addition to your arsenal.

On the other hand, the Puffco Peak is worth the investment if you’re going to use it at home every day instead of a traditional rig. You get water filtration without any torching or guesswork on temperature.

Final Verdict on the Puffco Peak vs Pivot

We hope our Puffco Pivot vs Peak comparison has left you with clarity on what each brings to the table and which best suits you. Here’s the thing, though - you can technically make room in your collection for both! The Peak as a daily driver; the Pivot when you head out of the house.

You can find both devices here at Badass Glass alongside countless others. Compare your options and see what we have in store for you today!

Frequently asked questions

Is the Puffco Pivot worth it?

It’s definitely one of the best dab pens on the market. It hits wonderfully, and you can quite literally take it on any adventure since it’s super durable without any glass components.

Is the Peak better than the Pivot?

Only for what it’s intended to do - give you a traditional dabbing experience without the torch. The Pivot is the better device from a portability standpoint.

Which e-rig offers better flavor quality?

Both taste great when you have quality concentrate loaded up in them and use the lower temperature setting. We’d give the edge to the Puffco Peak, though, because the water cools the vapor so it’s easier to enjoy the nuanced flavor notes.

Is one device a better “daily driver?”

That depends on your routine more than anything. Do your sessions take place at home in the same place every time? The Puffco Peak is the better pick for most people. But if you want something you can take to work or on adventures, that’s the Pivot for sure.

Which Puffco device travels better?

The Puffco Pivot, without question. It fits in your pocket and has a more durable build so you don’t have to worry about damaging it while out and about. It’s the best portable dab rig even though it’s technically not a dab rig at all.
