Lookah Dragon Egg Review: Is it Worth the Hype?
You’re not alone if you’re looking for a Lookah Dragon Egg review. Years after its initial release, this is still one of the most popular electric dab rigs we carry here at Badass Glass. But is it really worth the hype? How does it compare to newer Lookah pieces that have come out?
You’ve got questions; we’ve got answers. We were lucky enough to get our hands on our own Lookah Dragon Egg and put it to the test ourselves. This Dragon Egg Lookah review is based on firsthand usage, and trust us - we’ve used a TON of e-rigs over the years.
Here’s what we thought after taking a few rips with it and using it in real-world situations…
Quick Lookah Dragon Egg Review
The Lookah Dragon Egg is a portable electric dab rig (AKA e-rig) that lets you take dabs anywhere without the hassle of a torch and banger. Load up your concentrate, turn the device on, choose your temperature, and rip away!

First, How Much Does the Device Cost?
The device itself costs $72 right now at Badass Glass - usually $80. That’s honestly really affordable compared to some of the other e-rigs we carry in our catalog. Take the Puffco Peak, for instance - $275!
Just set your expectations, as you do get what you pay for. That’s really obvious when you look at Puffco vs Lookah side by side. Sure, some of it comes down to branding. But you won’t get the Puffco-level polish, app connectivity, or some of the other frills.
What you DO get is a totally functional, super unique e-rig with water filtration and multiple voltage settings to choose from. That’s pretty impressive at under $75. We were blown away by how well the device performed for the money. This thing punches way above its weight class. Exceptional value.
Using the Lookah Dragon Egg
Part of what we loved about the device, and something we’ll highlight throughout our detailed Lookah Dragon Egg review, is how intuitive it is. Super easy to use. Just click it five times to turn it on. Hold the button to heat the coil. There’s essentially zero learning curve.
You’ll fill up the water chamber for filtration. Then drop a little bit of concentrate (rosin, live resin, whatever you’ve got) into the coil and press the button to start heating. You can begin inhaling through the water chamber while the coil is active. Hold the button for up to 30 seconds per session.
That manual heat control can be a blessing or a curse depending on how you look at it. We like that it makes the device no different than a dab pen as far as usability goes. You can load up the coil and take a few small hits, or chug away to vaporize all the extract. But, there’s no automatic shut-off-and-hold like you’ll see on higher-end rigs.
However, we found that the experience was way easier than using a traditional dab rig with a torch. That’s probably the biggest reason people switch to an e-rig in the first place. You don’t have to control the flame and guess about heat. You can get into a good routine where you know exactly how long to hold the button down to get the hit you want.
Assessing Vapor Production
One of the biggest misconceptions about the e-rig vs dab rig is that you won’t get any clouds from an electric rig. Totally not true. The Lookah Dragon Egg proves the haters wrong.
You can use the higher setting (4.0V - White LED) to chase clouds if that’s your thing. We loaded up our extract, dialed up the intensity, took a fat rip, and were blown away by how much vapor came out. Super thick, yet, not difficult to inhale and exhale. This is probably all thanks to the extra water filtration.
But not everyone is a cloud chaser. Some people care more about flavor than anything else. That’s the beauty of the Lookah Dragon Egg - you can make it whatever type of rig you want!
Controlling Temperature For Flavor or Vapor
You get three settings to choose from, as we’ve mentioned already in our Lookah Dragon Egg review. You click the power button three times to cycle through them. They are:
- 3.2V - Green LED
- 3.6V - Blue LED
- 4.0V - White LED
The low setting is obviously going to produce thinner vapor, but it’s not built for that. It’s the setting you choose when you want to maximize terpene preservation and really appreciate the most nuanced notes from your concentrate.
The middle setting is the spot most people end up staying in. You get a good balance of vapor production and flavor quality. Cranking it up to the top end when you want bigger clouds and don’t care as much about how the vapor tastes.
The biggest drawback we’ll mention in our Lookah Dragon Egg review is the manual temperature control - and the lack of fine-tuning you get over the experience. You’ll find the Dragon Egg a bit limiting if you’re used to dialing in specific temperatures with a Puffco or even a traditional dab rig paired with an e-nail.
You can still probably find your sweet spot based on how long you hold the button down at one of those three settings - it might just take some trial and error to get there.
A Closer Look at Build Quality
This device is probably going to travel all over with you. From home to your buddy’s house, the park, the beach, wherever life takes you. So it has to keep up. We were not overly impressed with the build quality, we must admit. It’s plastic - not glass or metal.
That said, it’s not all bad. The body is less likely to shatter if you knock it over than a glass piece. The exception, of course, is the water chamber - which is glass. You need to be super careful with it when handling or packing it.
Don’t expect the Dragon Egg to feel premium in your hand. It looks really cool, and it’s functional enough - but it won’t blow you away as far as durability and craftsmanship go.
Traveling With the Lookah Dragon Egg
The Dragon Egg fits in a backpack or bag without much hassle and can accompany you on any adventure you take. That portability is probably what drew you towards the idea of an e-rig in the first place!
It’s not just about size, though. The battery life has to keep up with you on the journey as well. It honestly holds up pretty well for what you’re paying. You should get a solid 20-30 sessions out of the Dragon Egg (on the medium setting, that is) before having to charge it up again. It only takes two hours or so to reach a full charge from a dead battery.
The one thing we weren’t sold on is traveling with the glass bubbler component. It’s a bit fragile for our taste. But what do you expect at a price this low? It’s not going to shatter if you’re careful with it. That’s a big “if” for a lot of stoners, though…as you probably already know.
The good news is you can choose to leave the glass bubbler at home and hit the device dry if you prefer. You definitely won’t get the same experience, but at least you’ll enjoy peace of mind!
Wrapping Up Our Lookah Dragon Egg Review
All in all, we think the Lookah Dragon Egg is an exceptional e-rig given its price. You may not get the same premium build quality or sophisticated temperature control that you would with a more expensive device - like the Puffco Peak or even the Lookah Unicorn for that matter.
But the key takeaway from our Lookah Dragon Egg review is pretty simple: you get what you pay for. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better e-rig for under $75. The quartz coils heat fast, you get some control over temperature, and the device travels well. The downsides are trial and error with manual temperature control and somewhat underwhelming build quality.
