Puffco Peak Review

Puffco Peak Review

Puffco has delivered dabbing technology innovation in the form of their Puffco Peak Smart Rig. This portable, wireless rig is designed to give you the perfect dab every time; unlocking the true potency of your concentrate all without ever lighting a torch or firing up an e-nail. The Puffco Peak electric rig makes dabbing faster, quieter, and more consistent with no learning curve, but is it too good to be true? Let’s find out and get to the bottom of this promising rig review.

The Good

There’s a lot to love about the Puffco Peak right away. It comes in premium packaging, including a carrying case and multiple accessories to get you started. The rig itself feels sturdy and well-made, sporting a weighty, textured silicone base which adds to the balance, stability, and grip. The neck is made from thick borosilicate glass, and the overall craftsmanship implies that the electrics inside are also well-made.

We really appreciate the accessories that come with this rig. Beyond the sleek carrying case you receive a tether, cleaning swabs, a loading tool, micro USB cable with supercharger, a carb cap, and even an extra ceramic bowl. All these accessories make the Puffco Peak a full dabbing kit, not just a rig.

Puffco Peak Dab Kit

Operating the Puffco Peak requires a single button located on the front of the base. The e-rig has 4 heat settings depending on how you prefer to enjoy your concentrate. A ring around the base of the Puffco Peak flashes different colors based on the temperature, which both looks cool and makes monitoring temperature easy. The LED light band also helps monitor battery life, letting you know when you need to charge. The Peak takes about 2.5 hours to charge complete and lasts around 30 heating cycles.

The Puffco Peak heats up to temp in about 20 seconds, rumbling when it’s ready. It even adjusts the heat time if your bowl is still hot from a recent dab. We really love that this electronic rig communicates with the user so seamlessly. Check the light to monitor temperature, and listen for the buzz when it’s ready. After that, you’re ready to toke. As you can imagine, all this makes the Puffco Peak perfect for dabbing on-the-go. You can actually walk around with this rig and use it with one hand.

The Bad

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Puffco charges premium prices for their premium products. The Peak runs $379.99 retail for the standard black Peak, while accessories and replacement parts are equally expensive. Puffco Peak is made with care, craftsmanship, and quality, but it’s still a lot to drop on one rig. Some may not have the coin or want to spend it, but consider the entire kit you receive and the quality of your dabbing experience. The Puffco Peak is unmatched.

The other downside some may find in buying a Puffco Peak is the lack of customization. If you’re one of those dabbers who “can’t smoke” off anything but titanium, or want very specific heat settings, you’re out of luck with the Puffco Peak. Beyond this, since release Puffco has unveiled 3 new limited edition color options to give more variety to the base (I’m eyeing that rose gold Medusa). While we love the options, the real magic happened within the glass blowing community.

Glass blowers have now been creating custom attachments for the Puffco Peak. This took on new life when Puffco created their Made For Peak (MFP) collection of Puffco Certified attachments and their Glass Open blowing competition. You can now have the perfect attachment made for you, which surely settles some of those previous customization concerns.

The Bottom Line

The Puffco Peak is a premier electronic rig designed to give you a flawless dabbing experience from start to finish. It’s been out since last year and has faced criticism since its launch regarding charging and the ceramic atomizer issues. While those issues may have been valid in the past, Roger Volodarsky, CEO of Puffco, told Leafly’s David Downs that “80 to 90 percent” of issues have been resolved.

We personally didn’t have any problems when testing out our Peak. It is easy to use, looks great, and is made with the sort of craftsmanship you’d expect at this price. Most importantly, the dabs from this rig are so smooth, flavorful, and wonderfully consistent that you may never return to a traditional torch and nail. Yes, the dabs are that good. So, is it worth the high price and lack of customization?

We think so! If you can afford this rig, it’s definitely worth treating yourself. Compared to the torch and nail way of dabbing, the convenience and ease of this rig won’t have me looking back.
