Best Single Player Games to Play High

Best Single Player Games to Play High

We all love the thrill of online multiplayer games, but sometimes we’re not in the best state of mind to be competitive. How many times have you loaded into a Battle Royale so high that you’re just walking around the map paranoid and looting - the first gunshot you hear causing you to involuntarily seize up. We’ve been there, and to help take the edge off here are some fun options from diverse genres to challenge and captivate the imagination - all while having a pause button. We have modern games and classics on this list so there’s something for everyone. If you’re too high to even find the controller, no problem, there are some great mobile games on this list.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI

The latest installation of Sid Meier's Civilization Series, Civ6 is a turn-based strategy game where the player develops their civilization from inception through the ages with the goal of becoming a global leader. The goal is to defeat other civilizations, but victory can be achieved several different ways; military domination, cultural influence, religious prominence, or technological advancement. We love Civ, and you can get sucked into playing for hours even against computer controlled AI opponents. If you do prefer to play with others, you can play online or with friends. There’s no pressure and with the newest expansion this game gets even better.

Peggle

An absolute legend, Peggle, and all of its sequels, is a casual puzzle game where you shoot a limited number of balls at multicolored pegs in an effort to clear out orange ones. Seems easy, right? Defeat the Peggle Masters along the way to add their special abilities to your arsenal, choosing who to aid you each level. In the end, complete the challenges to prove you’re a Master. Lighthearted and fun, Peggle will have you on edge from the unexpected interactions that can occur. Beware of playing with others though, they’ll be begging you to pass the sticks. You can lose hours to this incredibly simple game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Explore Skyrim, Tamriel’s northernmost province, in the fifth installation of The Elder Scrolls Series. An open-world action role-playing game, Skyrim is not linear, allowing you to explore the province and complete quests that appeal to you. As Civil War threatens to tear the land apart, dragons appear for the first time in centuries threatening to destroy the world. After learning this was foretold by the Elder Scroll and that you are Dragonborn, a mortal born with the soul of a dragon, you may be the only one who can stop them. Skyrim is considered one of the greatest games of all time and a personal favorite of mine; one we highly recommend. You’ll get lost in the interweaving storylines and dazzling scenery, but don’t forget the mods! The community really created some amazing additions that can enhance your experience.

They Are Billions

This real-time strategy based survival game loads you into a randomly generated map with the goal of growing your base and surviving in a post-apocalyptic zombie filled world. While this game does have resource management and imminent waves of attacking zombies, it also has a pause button so you can plan your actions and play at your own pace. With multiple difficulties, this game can be adjusted for any skill level. In June, Numantian Games debuted their campaign mode titled “New Empire.” The last stronghold of humans are attempting to expand their settlement through way of a railway system. Will you take the lead and explore beyond the walls for the first time in 100 years?

Hearthstone- Free-to-play!

While Hearthstone does have a ranked online ladder, I’m referring strictly to their Solo Adventures. This turn-based card game builds upon Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft series lore with familiar characters and elements. Select your hero, each with their own special ability, and construct a deck before sitting down by the hearth for a game. The solo adventures don’t include timers so you’ll be able to carefully plan each turn. If something comes up and you need to walk away, you’re able to exit the app and come back without your game being affected.

Katamari Damacy Reroll

Delightfully bizarre, Katamari Damacy is a puzzle type action game where you, The Prince, are tasked with rebuilding the stars after your dad, the King of the Cosmos, destroys them while binge drinking. You’re sent to Earth with a Katamari, a magical ball that sticks to anything smaller than it, where you roll and grow it in size until it’s big enough to make a star. With different modes and challenges, you’ll have endless fun recreating the galaxy, but watch out for cats.

Subnautica

An open-world adventure survival game, Subnautica opens with the player crash landing on an ocean planet after their spaceship is shot down. Explore the mostly underwater planet collecting resources, constructing tools, and surviving its dangers while learning more about what happened to your ship, as well as the one you were sent there to find. This underwater masterpiece won PC game of the year in 2018 and it’s no guess why. We definitely recommend this game for smokers who love to zone out looting, but beware, monsters do lurk below the water.

Honorable mentions:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe & Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - We love both of these, but truly felt they were better to play with others, rather than as a single player game.
