We all know that cannabis can give you the munchies, and make you snack more than usual. Which is great for users who may have stomach problems or lack of appetite due to health reasons. However, did you know that cannabis can actually help you lose weight as well?

One day a group of scientist looked at a group of cannabis users and realized they all had something in common, other than being stoned, none of them were overweight or obese.

“Scientists at the University of Nebraska, the Harvard School of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found that marijuana users had a smaller waist circumference than those who had never used cannabis,” according to an article by Herb. “Another 2011 study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology surveyed over 52,000 participants and found that overall, rates of obesity are about one-third lower among cannabis users. A bit of a conundrum, since on average, weed lovers consume around 600 more calories per day”.

The main reason why marijuana can help weight gain is because the THC and CBD can actually speed up your metabolism and balance your insulin levels. Why is this relevant? You know that friend who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound, that’s most likely because they have a faster metabolism which breaks down their food and sugars much faster than normal. If you smoke then eat, whatever you ate will be processed through your body quicker than usual. As well as, too much insulin in the body can lead to lead to weight gain because it converts sugar into fat. Thank you marijuana!

Another reason why cannabis helps with weight loss is because it can also work like a pre-workout. Smoke a high THC sativa strain before working out and feel the same buzz and burst of energy as you would after drinking an energy drink or pre-workout. Smoke a high CBD indica strain after an intense workout to relieve any post workout soreness or spasms. Even if you don’t smoke using a CBD ointment, lotion, cream, or bath bomb can also relieve pain.

Overall, yes weed can help you keep loose weight. However, like with all weight loss tools it will only work if you eat healthy and stay active.
